Plans are well underway for one of Scotland’s leading events, Floors Castle International Horse Trials, which takes place in the parks of the historic Floors Castle in Kelso. In what is becoming a four year trend, the committee have once again secured record levels of prize money for the international classes.

Top riders are expected to descend on the Scottish Borders to compete in the top classes for which the total cash prize pot is an astounding £7,500. The winner of the CIC** will take home a cheque for £1,750 whilst the winner of the CIC* will be £750 better off.  Dressage for the CIC* and CIC** will be run on Thursday 11th May with the rest of the competition taking place on the morning of Friday 12th May meaning riders still have plenty of time to get to Chatsworth for the CIC***.

Sponsorship Managers Debbie Whalley and Caroline Taylor commented “Huge thanks has to go to the class sponsors. We’re delighted to be welcoming back Cazenove Capital Management who will be sponsoring the CIC** and Anderson Strathern who will be sponsoring the CIC*. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer this amazing prize fund.”

The international cross country courses are designed by former Olympian Ian Stark who, in the last couple of years, has overseen a complete overhaul of the course which has been very well received by all. All three phases take place in the shadow of the Castle making the event a truly special event for riders.

The Duchess of Roxburghe, who is one of the Organisers, says “I’m thrilled that we are able to offer our international riders such a wonderful prize fund. The event has undergone such a huge transformation in the last few years and to see it continue to grow and be supported so fantastically by sponsors and riders is hugely rewarding for the whole committee.

Floors Castle is just an hour’s drive from Newcastle and accessible to the whole of Scotland so we look forward to welcoming riders from far and wide to this year’s event!”

National riders can look forward to upper limits of prize money for their classes as well as the improvements that were made to the course in 2016.

Floors Castle Horse Trials, Kelso will be run from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th May 2017 within the magnificent grounds of Floors Castle, Kelso in the Scottish Borders. More information is available on their website
