Floors Castle International Horse Trials has a wonderful committee who volunteer all year round to make the event happen. The Meet the Team series gives you a chance to get to know these unsung heroes.

So, meet Richard Powell who’s official job title is “Logistics Manager” affectionately retitled by the rest of the committee as the “Bogs and Bins Man”.

How did you get involved in the horse trials? Hunted down and tortured until I waved the white flag!

Are you involved in horses other than at the horse trials? Horses have always been in my life; my grandfather is to blame he was a good old fashioned nagsman who broke in youngsters for the love of it. My passion is National hunt racing so I breed the odd Thoroughbred foal!

I rode round Floors once; a team chase on a fizzy TB mare who wasn’t a natural jumper. My team mates were Frances Mullan and Les Smith. I’ve only gone round a cross country once since then so that tells you about our experience that day!

When not helping with the horse trials you are: Running Springwood Holiday Park and Retirement Village and for a bit of fun I breed pedigree sheep – and I have my TBs of course.

Tell us a secret no one else knows about you: I’m from a family of brown eyed left handers , I’m right handed and blue eyed ???? (Awkward!!!)

Favourite song: 40 day dream by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

We’ll save you googling it, click here!

If you had a super power for the day what would it be: I’d like to fly for a day, I often dream about it…

Keep checking back to meet our next committee member.
